His father, Walter E. Baker Sr. was born on May 2nd, 1896 and died on November 24th, 1986, while his mother, Alva G. Baker, died before that on February 14th, 1973. Walter E. Baker Jr.’s parents were buried together in the Lumberton City cemetery.
According to the 1930 Census, his father was an electrician at a lumber mill in Lumberton. Before working as an electrician and settling down, his father registered for the WWI draft and enlisted in the military before being discharged on July 8th, 1918. His father had seven siblings and was born in Clarke County, Mississippi.
His mother’s maiden name was McDaniel before getting married to Walter Sr. She had a brother and both of her parents come from Alabama. Alva completed 4 years of high school.
